Gestalten steigen aus dem Moor,
tanzen herum und singen im Chor,
von ihren Schicksalqualen
im Turm die Glocken schlagen!
Oder als des Nachts ein Mann erschien.
Er trug sein Weibe auf dem Arm,
sie gerade erst tot, der Leib noch warm.
Im streit hat die Faust zugeschlagen
in dunkler Nacht im Sumpf sie begraben.
In klaren Vollmondnächten,
hört man das Volk berichten,
Gestalten steigen aus dem Moor,
tanzen herum und singen im Chor,
von ihren Schicksalqualen
im Turm die Glocken schlagen!
