School of Seven Bells formed in Philadelphia in 2007 around Benjamin Curtis and his sister Claudia de la Cruz. Their debut album 'Alpinisms' came out the following year, introducing a sound that drew from dream pop and shoegaze traditions with layered vocals and atmospheric guitars.
One track from that album, 'The Wait,' gained particular attention for its haunting quality. The band later re-recorded it for the 2010 film 'Black Swan,' a move that divided some listeners. They released three more studio albums: 'Disconnect from Desire' in 2010, 'Ghostory' in 2012, and 'Seben' in 2016.
Other songs like 'Connjur' and 'I L U' show their consistent approach to crafting immersive, textural music. The group maintained a somewhat private stance, letting the work stand on its own rather than seeking conventional publicity.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
