Scotoma

Scotoma formed in London around 2010, working from the edges of hardcore and industrial music. Their early material was built on dissonance and atonality, which didn't make things easy with labels or wider audiences. The band's members mostly used stage names like Damien on vocals, Ethan on guitar, and Rhys on drums, which added to their somewhat mysterious presentation.

In 2013 they put out 'Killing The Machine,' a single that became a flashpoint. With its distorted guitars and fractured rhythms, the track drew strong reactions, some listeners connected with its themes of alienation, while critics called it unlistenable. That tension defined much of their output, which included albums like 'Resonance of the Void' in 2011 and 'Desolation' in 2014.

Later records such as 'The Parallax' from 2017 incorporated noise, ambient, and glitch elements, pushing their sound further into abstraction. Other tracks like 'Realife' and 'sea.saw.sin.' continued in that vein, favoring texture and atmosphere over conventional song structures. Their live shows were known for being intense, immersive experiences where the line between performer and audience often felt deliberately blurred.
