Scott Hoying is a vocalist from Arlington, Texas, born in 1988. He's best known as a founding member of the a cappella group Pentatonix, which formed in 2011 with Kirstin Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, Avi Kaplan, and Kevin Olusola.
As Pentatonix's lead vocalist and arranger, Hoying's tenor voice appears on songs like 'Mary Did You Know?' and 'All I Want For Christmas Is You.' The group's sound relies on layered harmonies and beatboxing rather than instruments. In 2018, Hoying released a solo EP called 'ECLIPSE' that included both original material and covers.
He came out as gay in 2017 and has spoken about LGBTQ+ rights since then. Beyond Pentatonix, he has worked with artists like Tori Kelly and Lindsey Stirling.
