Scouting For Girls formed as a trio in 2007 with Roy Stride on vocals and guitar, Greg Churchouse on bass, and Pete Ellard on drums. Their debut single "She's So Lovely" reached number one in the UK that same year, introducing their straightforward pop sound built around Stride's piano melodies and earnest lyrics.
They followed with albums like 'Scouting For Girls' in 2007 and 'Everybody Wants to Be on TV' in 2009. Songs like "This Ain't A Love Song" and "Posh Girls" kept their sound in that same accessible, slightly sentimental pop lane, with Stride handling most of the songwriting.
In 2013, the band paused when Stride stepped away to deal with mental health concerns. He returned the following year, and they put out another album called 'Still Thinking About You' in 2015. They've kept playing shows since then, including some dates that drew criticism, like a 2016 performance in Dubai.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
