Sea of Bees formed in 2007 around singer and songwriter Julie Ann Baenziger. The Los Angeles indie rock group released their self-titled debut album in 2009, with Eli Shane on drums, Chris H. on guitar, and Jason Morant on bass.
Their 2010 album 'Ghosts in the Garden' and 2012's 'Pistachio Tree' continued to build their reputation. Songs like 'Willis' and 'Blind' became touchstones for listeners drawn to their particular blend of ethereal harmonies and introspective lyrics.
In 2011, Baenziger was diagnosed with cancer, which forced the band to cancel tour dates. They faced another challenge in 2017 with plagiarism allegations from another artist, which they denied and eventually resolved.
