Background notes

Archive material and source history

Selo e Alata formed in Brazil in 1995 with Sérgio Della Monica on vocals and guitar, Alata Alves on bass, and Adriano Siqueira on drums. Their first album came out the following year. They mixed samba with rock and jazz, which didn't sit well with everyone. Some traditionalists thought they were straying too far from samba's roots.

Their 1997 album 'Dia de Ressaca' gave them their biggest hit with the title track, a song about the morning after a night of partying. They put out two more albums after that, 'Roda Viva' in 2000 and 'Nação Sambarock' in 2003. The band broke up in 2007.
