The Sensational Alex Harvey Band formed in 1972 around Scottish frontman Alex Harvey, who had previously worked in cabaret and acting. They built a reputation for theatrical, intense live shows, with Harvey's eccentric stage presence at the center. The lineup included guitarist Zal Cleminson, bassist Chris Glen, and drummer Ted McKenna.
Their 1975 album 'Tomorrow Belongs to Me' brought wider attention, particularly through the single 'Hammer Song.' That track's pounding rhythm and anthemic quality became something of a calling card for the band. Other songs like 'Delilah' and 'Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody' showed their knack for dramatic, sometimes playful rock.
They released several albums in quick succession, including 'Framed,' 'Next...,' and 'The Pentateuch of the Cosmogony.' The band's run was relatively brief, ending after Harvey's death in 1978. Their music, with its blend of rock energy and theatrical flair, has maintained a cult following since.
