Separatist

Separatist formed in New York City in the late 1990s with Remy T on vocals and guitar, Anya K on bass, and Ethan D on drums. Their early sound had a raw intensity that drew from post-punk and alternative rock, building a cult following before they reached a wider audience.

In 2002, the band released the album "A Gentle Reminder," which included the title track that became something of an anthem for their listeners. That record brought them more mainstream attention and critical notice. They followed it with albums like "The Weight of Absence" in 2005 and "The Burning Ground" in 2009, continuing to release music through 2022's "Remnants."

Remy T's lyrics often tackled social and political themes, which drew both support and criticism. The band maintained a confrontational stage presence and generally avoided conforming to industry expectations, which kept them somewhat at odds with certain critics even as their fanbase remained dedicated.
