Sépia

Sépia formed in Salvador, Brazil in 1996. Their early years involved financial struggles and live performances that built a following, though the music industry was initially skeptical of their sound. The band's 2000 song "Ver-te Chegar" became a breakout, a ballad about unrequited love that connected with listeners across Brazil. They followed with albums like "Identidade" in 2004 and "Axé" in 2007.

Their music draws from Afro-Brazilian rhythms, samba, reggae, and funk, with lyrics that often touch on social themes. The core lineup has included Fabiana Cozza on vocals, Fábio Barreto on guitar, Ricardo Gomes on bass, and Glauber Costa on drums. They've worked with artists like Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, and Marisa Monte.

In 2004, Sépia faced some backlash over their song "Axé," which some claimed promoted religious intolerance. They continued making music that addressed topics like racial inequality and identity. Later albums include "Sobre Nós" from 2012 and "Café de Rua" from 2021. Other songs in their catalog include "Vida Proibida," "Was Bleibt," and "Goodbye Tristesse."
