The Septeto Nacional formed in Havana in the late 1920s with seven musicians. Ignacio Piñeiro played guitar and sang, Francisco Repilado handled flute and vocals, and Alfredo Boloña was on trumpet. The group also included Abelardo Barroso on vocals, Israel Cachao López on bass, Guillermo Portabales on tres, and Juan de la Cruz on bongos.
Their music drew from Cuban traditions like son, rumba, bolero, and guajira. They recorded songs such as "El Adiós de Este Momento" in 1929. Later members would include Eliades Ochoa, Rubén González, and Juan Formell.
They kept performing through those years.
