Serial Drunks formed in Brasília in 1999, a punk rock band built around friends Fábio Sampaio on vocals, Mauro Sampaio on guitar, Ricardo Batera on drums, and Rodrigo Campello on bass. They started playing bars and local events, and their debut album 'Justiça Pela Própria Mão' came out that same year.
Their second album, 'Tá No Inferno... Abraça o Capeta' from 2001, is what most people know them for. The title track became a kind of underground anthem in Brazil, with its loud, straightforward energy. The album's blunt lyrics and simple, catchy melodies connected with a lot of listeners.
They kept putting out records fairly regularly after that, like 'Cordão de Ouro' in 2003 and 'Desgraça Pouca É Bobagem' in 2013. They were a band that seemed to operate on its own terms, more interested in making their point than smoothing things over.
