Seringueiro e Guaribense formed in the early 1990s on Marajó Island, drawing their name from local indigenous groups. They built their sound from traditional rhythms of the Amazon region, performing at local festivals as they developed their material.
Their song 'Amor Em Segredo' became a hit, though in 2005 it sparked a public dispute over authorship. The band maintained the song's origins were rooted in oral traditions from their area. Other songs like 'Desengano Cruel' and 'Nas Grades do Coração' also found an audience.
They released albums including 'Terra de Ninguém' in 2002 and 'Marajó, Ilha Encantada' in 2010. Their music incorporated elements from carimbó to more contemporary styles, with Gilson 'Seringueir' among the core members who remained with the group through lineup changes.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
