Serion formed in 2005 from the remains of an earlier project, with members drawn to heavy metal and melodic details. They spent their first years playing local clubs and festivals while dealing with the usual financial strains of a new band.
In 2009 they put out a debut album called The Rebirth. Two years later, the single "Suffocating" connected with listeners in a way their earlier work hadn't. That song's haunted tone seemed to capture something about isolation that stuck with people.
