Severed

Severed formed in Athens, Greece in 2004, initially working with a raw, visceral sound that didn't fit neatly into metal subgenres. Their first album, The Shadow Codex, came out in 2007 and established their dark approach, finding an audience in the extreme metal underground. Over time, their music incorporated elements of death, doom, progressive, and ambient styles, though they've kept that core sense of unease.

Their song Seasons Shall Mend the Pain shows how they work with atmosphere and emotion, even within their heavy framework. The band has released several albums including Deadmeat Disciples, Apocalyptic Mass, Wounds, and a self-titled record in 2020. The current lineup features Acherontas on vocals, Aggelos on guitars, Elias on bass, and Fotis on drums.
