Severino Santos

Severino Santos came from Surubim, Pernambuco, where he grew up hearing the folk rhythms of the region. In the 1970s, he recorded the song 'Boi de Fogo,' which became his signature piece. The track tells the story of a mythical bull, and its haunting melody connected with listeners across Brazil.

He worked with producer Zé do Caixão on the album that shared the song's name. Santos kept to a traditional approach even as some critics argued Brazilian music should change. He collaborated with musicians like Zabé da Loca on accordion and Nilson do Gaita, who helped shape his sound.
