Severinus formed in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1970s around vocalist and guitarist Severino Filho, with Paulo Cézar on bass, Sérgio Costa on keyboards, and Carlos Alberto on drums. Their first album, 'Canto dos Escravos,' came out in 1979, followed by 'Caminhos do Tempo' in 1981.
Their 1982 album 'Canção da Vida' gave them their most recognizable song of the same name. The band's music sometimes touched on spiritual or political themes, which didn't sit well with everyone at the time.
They put out a few albums over several years, mixing Brazilian rhythms with progressive rock elements. The lineup stayed consistent through their recordings.
