Their debut album 'Seeing Things' gave them their first real attention, with the title track becoming a radio staple. That song, along with others like 'Spell' and 'Beat By Beat,' showed their mix of alternative rock with pop hooks and some electronic touches.
Blackwood's lyrics often dealt with personal anxiety and social observation, which sometimes put the band in the middle of public arguments. In 2005, a show at a conservative venue drew protests over their support for LGBTQ+ rights. They kept writing about those experiences rather than stepping back from them.
After 'Seeing Things,' they put out 'Fractured' in 2007 and 'Interwoven' in 2010. Those records moved between darker, more experimental sounds and the melodic approach they started with. Songs like 'Know It All' and 'Menace' came from that period.
