Archive material and source history

Shadows Fall came out of Boston in the mid-90s playing a style of metal that leaned into melody without losing its edge. Their debut album was called 'Of One Blood,' which is also the name of one of their better-known songs. The band's sound typically involved intricate guitar work and a mix of clean and harsh vocals, a combination that found an audience during the New Wave of American Heavy Metal era.

Like a lot of bands that stick around, their lineup shifted over time. Guitarist Johnny D'Bay left in 2004, and Chris Babbitt joined. Vocalist Brian Fair also came in later, bringing his own approach to the microphone. They put out records fairly steadily, including 'The Art of Balance' in 2002 and 'Fallout from the War' in 2006. A song like 'Redemption' gives a decent sense of their approach, aggressive but with hooks.

They recorded a cover of Ozzy Osbourne's 'Bark At The Moon,' which showed up in their setlists and on releases. Their later work included the 2015 album 'Madness in Manila.' The group's activity has ebbed and flowed since then, but their earlier material, especially from the 2000s, remains what most fans point to.
