Shai was an R&B quartet from Los Angeles that formed in the early 1990s. The group started when Marc Gay and Carl Martin began collaborating, later joined by Darnell Van Trier and Ronnie Wilson. Their 1992 debut single "If I Ever Fall in Love Again" became a hit, reaching the top of the R&B charts and establishing their sound.
They released four studio albums between 1992 and 2000, including their self-titled debut and the follow-up "24/7" which contained songs like "Baby Come Home" and "Get Ya Groove On." Their catalog includes tracks like "Come With Me" and "Baby I'm Yours" that showcase their vocal harmonies.
By the late 1990s, internal conflicts led to lineup changes. Van Trier left in 1996, followed by Wilson, leaving Gay and Martin as the remaining members. In 2002, there was a lawsuit over use of the Shai name that was settled out of court.
