Shaman King was a Brazilian metal band that formed in 1999. The original lineup included vocalist André Matos, guitarist Hugo Mariutti, bassist Luis Mariutti, and drummer Ricardo Confessori. Matos had previously been part of Angra, which gave the new project some immediate attention in the metal scene.
They released their first album, 'Power Over Pain,' in 2001. Songs like 'Ele Vai Vencer!' and 'Oversoul' showed their mix of melodic metal with progressive touches. They put out several more albums over the next few years, including 'Ritual' in 2002 and 'RituAlive' in 2003.
Matos left the band in 2003, and Renato Tribuzy took over on vocals. The group continued with albums like 'Immortal' in 2005 and 'Anastasis' in 2008, but their sound shifted and the lineup changed. There were also legal disputes around that time, with Matos accusing the band of using his material without permission.
