Shane Yellowbird was born in 1979 and grew up on a Lakota Sioux reservation in North Dakota. He started playing guitar and singing as a teenager, performing at local events. His first album 'A Journey' came out in 2001, followed by 'Spirit' in 2004. The title track from that second album became something of an anthem in Native American communities.
In 2006, Yellowbird released 'Bare Feet On The Blacktop,' which became his most recognized song. The track deals with the struggles Native Americans face, from historical trauma to contemporary poverty. Other songs like 'Drive Me Home' and 'Easy' show his style of blending traditional elements with contemporary folk and rock sounds.
In 2018, multiple women accused Yellowbird of sexual misconduct. His music continues to be heard, particularly in indigenous communities where songs like 'Bare Feet On The Blacktop' still resonate.
