Shenoah

Shenoah formed in London around 1986 with Martin Carr on vocals, Mark Kelly on guitar, Chris Tate on bass, and Greg Churchward on drums. Their first single, 'Ashes to Ashes,' came out in 1989 and caught some attention with its atmospheric sound and Carr's voice. That track, along with songs like 'Bullets And Numbers' and 'Stumble Through Shadows,' gave them a foothold in the alternative rock scene of the time.

They put out a debut album called 'The Things We Do for Love' and followed it with records like 'A Life in the Shadows' and 'The Waiting Game.' Their music sometimes mixed in folk or electronic touches, but it kept a moody, guitar-driven core. The band had a run of work through the early '90s, though they faced the usual strains that come with touring and recording.

Shenoah's catalog holds a handful of songs that still get mentioned by fans who remember that era, 'Bury Me,' 'Crawl Away (Suffer),' and the earlier single 'Ashes to Ashes.' They weren't a huge commercial force, but they made music that felt specific to its moment, with a dark, textured quality that distinguished them from more straightforward rock acts.
