Shinjuku Gewalt formed in 1993 around frontman Hirohito 'Tommy' Nishiura. Their name translates to 'violence' in German, which gives you some idea of the territory they were working in. Their debut album was called 'Tokyo Decadence.'
Their 2006 song '20ji No Parade' became their most well-known track. It's a haunting piece that features Nishiura's raw vocals, and it managed to reach listeners beyond the band's initial notoriety. Other songs in their catalog include 'Cygnus,' 'Death Metal,' and 'Madorosu wa Akaku shite Koukatsu.'
The band's lineup changed frequently over time, though Nishiura remained the constant. Guitarist Nobuaki 'NOB' Kikuchi and bassist Yuriko 'Yuri' Kanemura were among the other members. Shinjuku Gewalt disbanded in 2016.
