A late-60s group from The Hague that scored a global hit and kept playing.
If you only know "Venus," check out "Devil's suite" to hear their other side. It's a good reminder they had a whole catalog.
They're the band that gave the world "Venus," that song with the unforgettable opening riff and Mariska Veres's voice. It went number one in a bunch of countries in 1969. Beyond that, they had a solid run of other songs like "Devil's suite" and "Saw You In June" that showed they were more than a one-hit act.
They started in 1967 as The Motions, playing local shows in The Hague. After "Venus" blew up, the lineup started shifting, the drummer and bassist left within a few years. They called it quits in 1974, with a few brief reunions later.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
