Shwayze is the duo of Aaron Smith (who goes by Shwayze) and Cisco Adler. They came together in Malibu, California, and put out their self-titled debut album in 2008. That record landed at number 10 on the Billboard 200, anchored by the single 'Buzzin',' which became a summer staple. Their sound mixed hip-hop with a reggae-tinged, laid-back West Coast feel, heard on tracks like 'Californ-i-a' and 'Lazy Days'.

They followed up with albums like 'Let It Beat' in 2009 and 'Island in the Sun' in 2011. The music kept that easygoing, Southern California vibe, though some critics took issue with lyrics that seemed to casually reference drug use. In 2010, Adler was arrested on a drug possession charge, which brought some unwanted attention to the band.

Aaron Smith got his stage name from a friend who said his style was 'like a swayze.' Adler handled drums and production. Their music pulled from hip-hop, reggae, and pop, with a sound that sometimes drew comparisons to bands like Sublime.
