Sibylle Baier recorded a handful of songs on tape in Germany during the late 1960s and early 1970s. She played guitar and wrote quietly introspective material like 'Tonight' and 'I Lost Something In The Hills,' but the recordings weren't released at the time. They sat unheard for decades.
In 2006, those old tapes surfaced through a record collector. The album 'Colour Green' came out in 2009, introducing her voice to listeners who hadn't been born when she made the music. The songs felt complete as they were, spare, direct, and unadorned.
Her work since then has appeared in small batches: 'Depart' in 2017, 'Carp' in 2019, 'In Colour' in 2020. She never built a conventional career, but the recordings from her youth have a plainspoken clarity that doesn't sound dated. You can hear it in 'Forget About' or 'The End', just a person in a room, singing into a machine.
