Silent Civilian formed in Los Angeles in 2005 with Chris Herin on vocals, Matt Smith on guitar, Ricky Olson on bass, and Andy Hurley on drums. Herin had previously been in From First to Last. Their debut album 'Rebirth of the Temple' came out the following year, with songs like 'Force Fed' and the title track establishing their sound.
Andy Hurley left the band after a car accident in 2007, and Josh Freese stepped in on drums for a time. They put out two more albums: 'Ghost Stories' in 2008 and 'Live Again' in 2010. The title track from that final album, with its chorus about wanting to live again, became something of an anthem for their listeners.
Their live shows could get pretty intense, which led to some criticism about the content being too confrontational. The band maintained they were just expressing real experiences. They called it quits in 2011 after those three albums.
