Silent Fall

Silent Fall came together in Los Angeles in the early 1990s with Jonathan Cain on vocals, Joe Irelan on guitar, David Kemper on bass, and Brian Vest on drums. They had a hard time getting labels interested at first, with their sound being a bit too unconventional for the mainstream. They kept at it, playing clubs around LA until Wind-up Records signed them in 1996.

Their debut album 'The Art of Balance' came out that same year, and the single 'Forever and Ever' took off, landing in the Billboard top 10. That song, along with tracks like 'Haunted Sights' and 'On The Top Of The World,' gave them a moment of real visibility. Not long after, though, they got hit with accusations that 'Forever and Ever' borrowed too heavily from Ani DiFranco's 'Both Hands.' The band denied it, but the talk stuck around.

They put out another album called 'Disagreeable' in 1997. What you hear in their music from that period are these ethereal harmonies and lyrics that lean toward the haunted side, a sound that felt particular to them even as the alternative rock scene was shifting around them.
