Archive material and source history

Silent Mobius formed in Los Angeles in 1985, led by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Andy LaRocque with keyboardist James Fox. Their sound was complex and experimental from the start, drawing from progressive rock but with its own particular textures. They had trouble getting labels interested at first, and their 1988 debut 'Shadowland' didn't break through to mainstream audiences.

Their 1992 album 'Can We Bring the Love In' became something of a cult favorite, anchored by the title track. That song, along with others like 'Gone' and 'Kagome Kagome,' showed their mix of ethereal melodies and philosophical lyrics. They kept releasing albums through the mid-90s, including 'Stranger Here in My Life' in 1994, but never quite found a wide commercial footing.

Their music sometimes drew criticism for being too explicit or too difficult to categorize, which might have limited their reach. Still, they developed a following among listeners who appreciated their particular blend of progressive rock and hard rock elements, with LaRocque's vocals and songwriting at the center.
