Sixx AM formed in 2007 around Nikki Sixx, who had been the bassist for Mötley Crüe. He started the band with vocalist James Michael and guitarist DJ Ashba. Their first album, The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack, came out that same year and included the song 'Life Is Beautiful.'
That debut record was tied to Sixx's book about his struggles with addiction, and the band's music often dealt with personal hardship. James Michael had lost his sister to cancer around that time, and those experiences shaped the lyrics. They put out three more albums over the next decade: This Is Gonna Hurt in 2011, Modern Vintage in 2014, and Prayers for the Damned in 2016.
Their sound mixed heavy rock with some electronic and industrial touches, which made them hard to pin down to one style. Besides 'Life Is Beautiful,' other tracks like 'Skin' and 'Accidents Can Happen' kept that same blend of big guitars and introspective writing. The band stayed active through the 2010s, working mostly as a studio project rather than touring heavily.
