Archive material and source history

The Skids formed in Dunfermline in 1977 with Richard Jobson on vocals, Stuart Adamson on guitar, William Simpson on bass, and Tom Kellichan on drums. Their debut album 'Scared to Dance' came out in 1979 and included 'The Saints Are Coming,' which reached the UK top ten. That song, along with tracks like 'A Day In Europa' and 'Animation,' gave them a reputation for energetic punk with sharp lyrics.

They followed up with 'Days in Europa' later in 1979, which had a more polished sound. The band kept recording through the early 1980s with albums like 'The Absolute Game' and 'Joy,' but lineup changes and internal tensions were part of the story. They broke up in 1988.

Jobson's vocal style and Adamson's guitar work defined their sound. Beyond 'The Saints Are Coming,' songs such as 'Charade' and 'Circus Games' showed their range from anthemic to more intricate arrangements. Their music stayed rooted in that late-70s Scottish punk scene, even as it evolved.
