Sleepy LaBeef was a band from Texas that formed in the early 2000s. They played a mix of blues, country, and folk with what some called a cosmic twist. Their lineup included John Convertino on drums, Wilco Johnson on guitar, Buzz Clifford on bass, and Jimmie Dale Gilmore handling vocals.
They released their first album, Midnight At The Oasis, in 2001. Their 2003 album All The Time featured the song of the same name, which became something of a cult favorite. Other tracks like I Ain't Gonna Take It and Ride On Josephine showed their blend of traditional roots with their own atmospheric approach.
Sleepy LaBeef put out a few more albums including The Long Goodbye in 2006 and Spirit Of The Times in 2009. Their music drew attention from critics who appreciated how they handled Americana conventions without being bound by them.
