Sleepy Tom was a band from Austin, Texas that formed in the late 1960s. They had a lineup that included vocalist and guitarist Tom Carter, bassist Billy Rogers, drummer John Smith, and keyboardist Suzie Wilson. Their debut album came out in 1969 but didn't find much of an audience at first.
In 1972 they recorded 'I Want Your Soul,' which became their most recognizable song. The track's success gave the band wider recognition and led to extensive touring. Their live shows developed a reputation for being intense and somewhat provocative.
Some of Sleepy Tom's material drew criticism for its darker themes. The band's stage presence and overall image seemed to invite speculation and media attention throughout their active years.
