Archive material and source history

Sloan formed in 1991 with Chris Murphy, Patrick Pentland, Jay Ferguson, and Andrew Scott. That lineup has stayed together ever since, which is unusual for a band that's been around this long. They put out their first album, 'Smeared,' in 1992.

Their songs like 'Everything You've Done Wrong' and 'Money City Maniacs' have a jangly guitar sound and close harmonies. They've released nine studio albums, including 'Steady' in 2018.

In 2001, Sloan left their label after a legal dispute and started their own imprint called Murderecords. They've kept making music on their own terms since then.
