Slum Village formed in Detroit during the mid-1990s around rappers T3, Baatin, and J Dilla. Their debut album, 'Fan-Tas-Tic (Vol. 1),' came out in 1996 and set the tone for their sound. J Dilla's production became central to their work, shaping records like 'Fantastic, Vol. 2' in 2000 and 'Trinity (Past, Present, & Future)' two years later. Songs like 'Fall in Love' and 'Selfish' from that period still get played.
Dilla died in 2006, and Baatin passed away in 2009. T3 kept the group going, putting out albums such as 'Detroit Deli (Vol. 2)' in 2007 and 'Villa Manifesto' in 2010. Later, with newer members like Illa J and Young RJ, they released 'Dirty Slums' in 2015 and 'Fantastic, Vol. 3' in 2020.
