They first came together on Bunny Lee's record label, where their approach to the reggae beat began to stand out. Dunbar's drumming and Shakespeare's bass lines formed a tight, driving foundation that other artists wanted behind their songs.
Their reputation grew through work with reggae figures like Peter Tosh and Gregory Isaacs, but they also moved beyond that scene. They've played on tracks for Grace Jones and Mick Jagger, and their remix of the Fugees' "Fu-Gee-La" shows how their sound translated to hip-hop. One of their own instrumentals, "Boops (Here To Go)," became a well-known track.
While their core has always been Dunbar on drums and Shakespeare on bass, guitarist Ernest Ranglin and keyboardist Tyrone Downie have been regular collaborators in their recordings and live shows.
