Smack was a rock band that formed in San Francisco in 1970. The original lineup included guitarist Richie Ranno, bassist Chuck Sabo, drummer Dennis Fowlkes, and vocalist Mary Gannon. They released their self-titled debut album that same year.

In 1973, the band had their biggest success with the song "Evil Woman," which became a hit single. The track featured Gannon's vocals over a rock arrangement that leaned into blues influences. They followed it with albums like "We Are Smack" in 1974 and "Burnin' and Lootin'" in 1975.

Later songs in their catalog included "Lembranças e Promessas," "Love (Feeling do Som)," and "Por Perto." The band experienced lineup changes over time and faced various internal challenges. Mary Gannon died in 1996.
