Snake River Conspiracy formed in Los Angeles in 1995 around Ryan Clark on vocals and guitar, Jeff Babko on keyboards, and John Shanks on bass. Their first album, 'Sonic Jihad,' came out in 1998 and mixed rock with electronica and some Middle Eastern touches.
In 1999, their song 'Breed' from the album 'Vertigo' drew criticism for its lyrics about sexual violence. The band didn't back down from the material, and the attention pushed them further into view.
They kept putting out records like 'Blank Canvas' in 2001 and 'Tunnel of Love' in 2004, sticking with their atmospheric rock style while gradually adding more progressive elements. Other songs in their catalog include 'Casualty,' 'Lovesong,' 'Act Your Age,' and 'Art of War.'
