Sniff 'n' the Tears formed in London in 1976 with Paul Roberts on vocals and rhythm guitar, Chris Copping on lead guitar, Loz Netto on bass, and Tony Allen on drums. Their debut album 'Fickle Heart' came out in 1978 and included 'Driver's Seat,' which became a worldwide hit reaching the top five in several countries.
While 'Driver's Seat' became their defining song, the band's other material like 'Black Money' and 'Looking For You' showed their range. Copping left in 1980, leaving Roberts as the primary songwriter, and their subsequent albums didn't match the commercial success of their debut.
The band continued releasing music through the 1980s and 1990s, though they never recaptured the chart success of 'Driver's Seat.' That song remains what most people remember them for, with its distinctive melody and Roberts' vocals.
