So What formed in Porto in the late 1980s, with Zé Pedro on vocals and guitar, Fernando Ribeiro on guitar, Pedro Renato on bass, and Fábio on drums. They came together after the band Peste & Sida ended. Their first album, 'A Sério,' came out in 1992, and the title track became a hit. They followed it with albums like 'Esta É a Vida' in 1994 and 'Humanos' in 1996.
Their songs often dealt with social and political themes, which sometimes drew strong reactions. Tracks like 'False King' and 'Primavera nunca mais' carried that direct approach. In 1998, they released a live album recorded at Pavilhão Atlântico.
Later albums included 'Portugal' in 2000 and 'O Mundo Não É Assim' in 2002. They kept recording through the 2000s, with 'Sempre em Frente' in 2004 and 'Acústico' in 2006. In 2016, they put out 'XXX Anos.'
