S.o.a.p. was a German electronic duo formed in the mid-1990s by Arne Schumann and DJ Moguai. The name stood for "Sound of Animals Playing." They worked in house, techno, and trance, and their track "Bijoux" from 2001 became a breakout hit.
Their music often featured ethereal vocals over driving beats, with songs like "Ladidi Ladida" and "Call Me" showing their dancefloor approach. They released albums including Enjoy Yourself in 1998 and a self-titled record in 2000.
In 2002, they left Universal Music after a dispute over creative control, and Schumann briefly stepped away before returning in 2005. A copyright issue arose in 2006 over a sample from Deep Forest's "Sweet Lullaby," which was later resolved.
