Soap formed in Tokyo in 2004 as a trio with singer Yutaka Yamada, guitarist Toshiki Hata, and bassist Takuya Nakahira. They started playing in underground clubs, building a following with a sound that mixed pop with electronic and folk textures. Their debut album 'Memories' came out in 2006.
They released several albums over the next decade, including 'Me to Himitsu no Hanataba' in 2007 and 'Songs in the Key of Life' in 2009. Their 2017 track 'Shinjuku Transfer' became one of their most recognized songs.
