Sofi K grew up in rural Tennessee, where she heard classic country and bluegrass early on. She started playing local talent shows and songwriting competitions, drawing from artists like Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash. In 2017, she put out a self-titled debut EP that caught some attention for its direct lyrics and unpolished feel.

Her song 'Straight Shooting Girl' became her most recognizable track, with its plainspoken lyrics about being a no-nonsense woman. Other songs like 'All About The Lights' and 'Best Night' show her leaning into straightforward country storytelling without much ornamentation.
