Met welke gruweldaden en tyranieën van goddeloos vertier
als boosaardige lieden kwamen zij zo alhier
dit volkje had onder hen, een kapitein met name
geheten Louis Bakelandt, tot gruweldaden bekwaam
kloek en onbevreesd deden ze dat wat hij gebiede.
Tot Passendale in de nacht, te Rollegem en te Staden
hebben zij met brute kracht veel mensen omgebracht
verlaten van God, hebben zij zich begeven
al stelend, rovend goed en geld, in onze mooie streken
ver nielend elk huis en kruis,de eer van onze vrouwen.
Nadat ze menig gruweldaad op hun kerfstok hadden staan
werd Bakelandt in een straat te Ichtegem vast gegrepen
er volgde een proces en wel 30 van zijn makkers
werden met Bakelandt te Kortrijk opgesloten
en reeds enkele dagen later vielen te Brugge al hun hoofden.
