Solar Thorn formed in Seattle in 2007 with Emily Carter on vocals, Ethan Blackwood on guitar, Kira Rayne on bass, and Jake Stone on drums. They put out their first EP, 'Ashes to Embers,' the following year.
Their 2010 track 'Shadowing the Light' became their most recognizable song. Carter's lyrics often dealt with darker themes, which drew some criticism alongside the praise.
They released several more albums over the next decade, including 'Serpent's Tongue' in 2013, 'The Fall and Rise' in 2016, and 'Echoes of the Abyss' in 2019.
