Son MC is a Brazilian rap collective that formed in the early 1990s. Their debut album 'Raio X Brasil' came out in 1994, followed by records like 'Canta pra Rua' in 1997 and 'O Rodo' in 1999. They're probably best known for the track 'Encosta Ae,' which became something of an anthem.
The group included Edi Rock as a frontman, along with Helião and Sabotage on vocals, with DJ Hum handling production. Their lyrics often dealt with street life and social issues in Brazil, which sometimes put them at odds with authorities. In 2001 they contributed to the 'Tropa de Elite' soundtrack.
They released 'Assim Assado' in 2003 and a live album in 2005. Another track people remember is 'Primeira Opção.' Their sound was straightforward Brazilian hip-hop without much polish, which connected with listeners who wanted something that felt direct and local.
