Son of Sardar formed in 2006 with Abhay Jodhpurkar on lead vocals and guitar, Jeetendra Joshi on rhythm guitar, Sameer Desai on bass, and Vivek Raikar on drums. They released their self-titled debut album in 2008, which included the song "Bichdan."
That track, along with others like "Po Po" and "Yeh Jo Halki Halki Khumariya," helped them build a following. In 2012, there were some plagiarism claims around "Bichdan," which the band denied and which eventually got resolved.
They put out a few more albums over the next several years, including Shikayat in 2010, Khwaab in 2012, and Safar in 2014. Their music often dealt with love and heartbreak, delivered with a straightforward, emotional touch.
