Sonny & Vaech formed as a duo in the Dominican Republic, with Sonny Sandoval handling vocals and Vaech Alvarez on guitar. Their sound mixed Latin rhythms with pop elements, drawing from the merengue and bachata traditions of Santo Domingo where Sonny grew up.
In 2007 they released their debut album 'Poquito a Poquito,' which included the title track that became their most recognizable song. The album's success helped establish them in Latin music circles.
Vaech took a break from music around 2010 due to health issues, during which Sonny performed solo.
