Sopa de Cabra formed in Girona in 1986. The name means "goat soup" in Catalan. The original lineup included Gerard Quintana on vocals, Josep Thió and Francesc "Cuco" Lisicic on guitars, Joan Cardona on bass, and Pep Sala on drums.
Their self-titled debut album came out in 1989. It mixed traditional Catalan folk with rock, and songs like "Camins" became anthems. They followed with albums including "La Roda" in 1990, "Ben endins" in 1992, and "Un tros de cel" in 1996.
In 1997, their album "Dies que Obro els Ulls" drew attention for its political lyrics about Catalan independence. Later records like "Plou i Fa Sol" from 2000 and "Prop de les Estrelles" from 2003 showed the band incorporating funk, jazz, and world music into their sound.
